TRADITIONAL ROSARY vs. THE NEW ROSARY

The tradtional Rosary consist of the Joyful mysteries (Monday and Thursday), Sorrowful mysteries (Tuesday and Friday) and the Glorious mysteries (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday).

An "addition to the traditional pattern which, while left to the freedom of individuals and communities" (Rosarium Virginies Mariae) introduced a fourth mystery, the Luminous, introduced in 2002 by Pope JP II.

It is about his public life, when he proclaims the Gospel of the Kingdom.

The traditional Rosary has been around for centuries, so why was it important to create a new mysteries to the Rosary?

We simply look at the following:

Monday is the Joyful mystery, the birth of Jesus Christ.

Tuesday is the Sorrowful mystery, the agony and death of Jesus Christ.

Wednesday is the Glorious and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Thursday is then again the birth of Jesus Christ.

Friday is the agony and death of Jesus Christ.

Saturday is the Glorious

Sunday is Sunday and also the Resurrection.

Pope JP II decided to add the Luminous which is about the life and works of Jesus Christ. He struggled on which day the Luminous would fit. And, Pope JP II decided to add the Luminous Mysteries on the Thursday.

Now, this in return, distorted the structure of the Traditional Rosary. Let us show why:

Monday, Joyful and birth of Jesus Christ.,

Tuesday, Sorrowful and agony and death of Jesus Christ.

Wednesday, Glorious and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Thursday, Luminous - life and works of Jesus Christ.

Friday, Sorrowful and agony and death of Jesus Christ.

Saturday, Joyful and birth of Jesus Christ.

Sunday, Glorious and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

First of all,

The traditional structure is:

Annunciation and Birth

Agony and Death

Resurrection

Annunciation and Birth

Agony and Death

Resurrection

Resurrection

with the added Luminous, and the description of how and why can be read in JP II's Rosarium Virgines Mariae, the structure now follows:

Annunciation and Birth

Agony and Death

Resurrection

Life and Works of Jesus

Agony and Death

Annunciation and Birth

Resurrection

This is not close to a normal life cycle. Therefore, we do follow the traditional structure.

Secondly,

"The Rosary belongs among the finest and most praiseworthy traditions of Christian contemplation. ...

The selection was determined by the origin of the prayer, which was based on the number 150,

the number of the Psalms in the Psalter"

(Rosarium Virginies Mariae)

Introducing the new Luminous, then it is no longer based on the 150 Psalms...

Finally,

why has not other Popes come up with the idea of adding another structure concerning the Rosary? Is one of the reasons why related to the Divine gift and not the man-made structure?

The more scattered the flock is, the upper hand of the Devil.

The more united we are against Evil, the stronger we are...
